Jaeyong was born and raised in South Korea. He obtained his B.S. degree in Pharmacy from Seoul National University, where he later pursued his PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences under the guidance of Prof. Hyeung-geun Park. During his doctoral research, he focused on the development of enantioselective aza-Michael addition by phase-transfer catalysts. His work involved designing and synthesizing cinchona-alkaloid-derived organocatalysts and applying them to access various β-amino carbonyl compounds with high enantioselectivity. He also contributed to the synthesis of bioactive molecules, such as Sitagliptin and Tubulysin analogues. Outside the lab, he enjoys watching movies and running.
